Our Story: 100 Years of Learning in Miami

In 1926,

As Miami rebuilt after a major hurricane, Mrs. Louise Shaffer moved from New York to Florida, convinced that the young city held great promise. She founded The Biltmore School in Coral Gables. Families came, the school grew, and it soon moved to a larger campus.

Over the decades, the school was shaped by educators and families who each left their mark, from an early emphasis on poise and confident communication to the warm, family-centered community parents know today.

Under the leadership of Gina Duarte-Romero, M.Ed., an educator inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, Biltmore grew into a full preschool, elementary school and middle school on one campus at 1600 South Red Road. In March 2012 it became an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.

In 2026, The Biltmore School welcomed Altiva Education as partners, to continue growing our program and our facilities. A century later, our purpose is the one Mrs. Shaffer started with: help every child think, communicate and grow with confidence.
